Your Library Card

Harrison County residents wanting a library card, must present valid picture identification and proof of residency in the county.

Non-Harrison County residents working in Harrison county wanting a library card, must present proof of employment in Harrison County. Patrons who reside in the counties of Grant, Scott, Bourbon, Nicholas, Robertson, Bracken, Pendleton, Fayette, Boone, Kenton, and Campbell must present a valid library card in good standing from their home county in order to receive a library card. Patrons owning property in Harrison County, but not residing in the county, must show a paid tax bill.

Patrons living outside of the counties listed above must present a valid library card in good standing from their home county.

Lost cards within one year of initial issue will have a $1.00 replacement charge. No replacement charge for other cards. The patron is responsible for all materials checked out on their card. If the card is lost, the patron must notify the library immediately so the card can be cancelled.

Library cards can only be used by the patron named on the card. Spouses or other family members cannot use any card other then their own.

There is no minimum age to apply for a library card. Cards are kept in the library until the patron is 14 years old. A parent or guardian must sign for the child (17 and under) to receive a card. Any child under the age of 18 must have permission from the parent or guardian in order to check out movies.

Fines

  • Books/Audiobooks: 5 cents per day/per item
  • Overnight Books: 25 cents per day/per item
  • Interlibrary Loan: 50 cents per day/per item
  • Computer Software: 25 cents per day/per item
  • DVDs: 1.00 per day/per item

Loan Periods

  • Books, music CDs, audio books, magazines- 14 Days
  • DVDs, videos- 3 Days
  • Equipment- 3 Days
  • CD Rom/ mulit tape videos- 7 Days
  • Reference material- 1 Day

Charges

  • Copies (computer printouts,copy machine)- 10 cents per copy
  • Laminating-$1.00 (8 1/2 X 11 or smaller) per sheet
  • Sending Fax- $1.00 for pages 1-5 including the cover sheet. The cost will increase $1.00 per 5 pages. If the fax is being sent outside the U.S., the charge will be $5.00 for the first 5 pages increasing $1.00 per 5 pages thereafter.
  • Receiving Fax- 10 cents a page
  • Color Copies- $1.00 a page for photographs, 25 cents for all others.

Patrons with overdue materials or a fine larger than $1.00 are not allowed to check out materials or use computers until materials are returned and fines paid.

The patron must replace materials returned damaged. Damage does not mean normal wear and tear, but treatment such as liquid spills, chewed by animals or children, pages torn out or marked on, melted cases, shattered tape cases, etc.

Circulation

Books, audiobooks, and periodicals are circulated for 2 weeks with a possible 2 week renewal period. Overnight materials must be in before closing time the following day. The director authorizes any special loans. All materials may be reserved either online or at the circulation desk. Reservations are limited to two items in any category. Reserved items must be picked up within three days once the patron has been notified that the item is available. Notification will be by phone, so it is necessary that the library has current information on all patrons.

New patrons may check out two items for the first 2 weeks after registration until the address can be verified. Once verification takes place, the patron can then check out the full number of items allowed.

Effective April 1, 2009, patrons must present library card to check out full number of items. If no card is presented, patron may check out 3 items but will not be allowed to check out any movies.

A patron may check out 10 items.

  • Audiobooks - 10
  • Computer Programs - 2
  • DVDs - 2
  • Music CDs - 4

Popular DVDs are available at the library. These items are available for a three day loan. Due to the rating on some of the DVDs, children must have parental permission to check them out. The library does not censor materials check out by any of our patrons.

Computers

There is a one hour time limit and patrons are allowed on once a day. Printing is available for 10 cents per page for black and white copies, 25 cents per page for color copies.

Donations

Special recognition is given to any patron donating $50.00 or more to the library. A plaque that is located in the Christine Burgan Kentucky Room displays all donations equal to or greater than $50.00. When a donation is made, the name of the patron is engraved on a brass plate and attached to the plaque. All donations are tax deductible.

Suggestions

Everyone is encouraged to make suggestions for titles to be purchased by the library. If you know of a good book, DVD, music CD or other item that you feel the library could use, sign the suggestion sheet at the circulation desk. The staff reviews all suggestions and has the final word on what is added to the collection. Financial restraints limit the purchase of all materials.

Memorials

This service provides a means to honor and /or remember another person in a permanent or special manner.

A gift of any amount of money may be given to purchase an item in honor or memory of another person.

The library sends an acknowledgement card and placed a bookplate on the item announcing the gift. A book of all such memorials is kept on display at the entrance to the Kentucky Room. All gifts and memorials are tax deductible.
